Although the format of Mastermind has been relaxed a little since its early days, with Humphrys chatting with the contestants between rounds, the questions remain taxing in the extreme, and it takes exceptional brain power and a sturdy resolve to rack up a high score. In addition to the difficult general knowledge round, contestants must also answer detailed questions on their chosen specialist subject. Categories range far and wide, with entrants professing expert skills on topics ranging from Stravinsky to Star Wars.
