Responsible Gambling
We believe that we have a responsibility to you, to ensure
that you enjoy your experience with player.tv. Sometimes we
find customers who have problems controlling their gambling,
and we try to help them as much as we can.
Some responsible gambling advice
from Gamcare.org.uk:
Gamble for fun - do not chase losses. If you feel you may
get carried away, set your spend / loss limits on your account
before you play. Similarly set a time limit for how long you
want to play. You may also exclude yourself from playing on
most online casinos for various time periods.
If you want any advice or have any questions on problem gambling,
please contact Gamcare.org.uk via the website www.gamcare.org.uk
or confidentially by telephone on 0845 6000133.
However:
Addiction to gambling can be as destructive as a drug or alcohol
dependency. The gambling addict destroys relationships with
family and friends, and may jeopardise his or her education,
job or career. In some cases they may resort to crime to fund
their habit. This can mean losing possessions, job, home or
family, and a prison sentence or community sentence. Gambling
addicts are also at high risk of attempting suicide when their
situation goes out of control, and they may suffer depression,
low self-esteem, and physical side effects from stress. Unfortunately,
a gambling problem is hard to identify, and the gambler will
have become used to lying to cover the telltale signs. Often
the gambling addiction is discovered because other problems
have occurred - such as serious debt, eviction orders, court
notices, relationship breakdown, or a criminal conviction.
It is estimated that gambling addiction in adults can affect
around 13 other people, from the partner, children, siblings
and parents through to friends, colleagues and employers.
A healthy approach to gambling:
In order to keep gambling under control and prevent problems
from occurring, consider the following points:
• You are buying entertainment - not investing your money
• Before gambling, set strict limits on how much time and
money you are going to spend
• Quit when you are ahead
• Only gamble with money you can afford to lose
• Do not chase your losses
• Keep up other hobbies and interests to ensure that gambling
does not take over
• Gambling in moderation is okay and healthy
• It offers an escape, a fantasy, a chance to take risks
• It can provide a challenge or element of skill
• It can provide a feeling of being in control
• It can give you a natural buzz/adrenalin rush
• It can be a social activity
• It is glamorised in the media, and in adverts
Is gambling harmful?
Like most things, gambling is fine in moderation, but if done
to excess it can become addictive. Individuals can become
dependent on gambling and a lot of damage can be caused to
the individual and his or her family. A small but significant
number of men, women and young gamblers become addicted.
