Strike It Rich features a bank of monitors which contestants progress along as they answer multiple choice questions, accumulating prizes including holidays and £10,000 until they are interrupted by a ‘hot spot’. A simple premise with easier questions than most quiz shows, the secret of this much loved show lies in the host’s gift for interacting with the contestants.

With Barrymore’s affable showmanship and playful manner complementing an ‘anything goes’ attitude to the quirky contestant’s gaffes and misfires, Strike It Rich is more entertaining than the sum of its parts. Now famous hilarious moments include an elderly man who forgot to bring his glasses and couldn’t read the questions, a Scottish farmer who read poetry to the audience for an astounding 90 minutes, and a contestant who matched the phrase “The Princess and the…” with the word “porker”.
